What song do you hate the most out of all your songs and why?
great question-- i hate performing Sick Boy-- the thing is, almost all songs have a short shelf life, but what i always hope to write is a song which can live outside the context and environment in which it was written. and one reason maybe why we succeed a lot is that i have no idea what a lot of other bands are doing.. i dont really know whats trendy or cool at the moment and i dont care. around 2000 though we were forced to care-- if you wanted a record deal you needed songs with gimicky hooks and shit-- bottom line its just too cheesy for me these days -- but im not ashamed- guess it's like looking back at a flashy jacket you designed in highschool and wore all the time-- hey that was cool back then , but i dont want to wear it anymore.
What was your inspiration for "Until There's Nothing Left Of Us"?
the album itself or just the title? the title is basically the 4 of us saying that we killed and were killed for this record.. whether it sells 10 thousand or 10 million, its all the sweat and blood we have left
If kill hannah wasn't around, what would you be doing today?
probbaly planning some rediculous crime -- a heist - a caper
What made you decide on doing a remake of Under the Milky Way by The
Church? Are there any other songs that you'd like to cover in the future?
we relate a lot to the church.. they didnt really 'fit' anywhere in the 80's you know? they were dark but poppy like we are.. and the song is so cinematic and romantic-- one day i want to cover voices carry by til tuesday (YOU'VE BEEN SAYING THAT YOU WANT TO COVER VOICES CARRY FOREVER, MAT! DO IT ALREADY! -ERIN)
You've covered song from Billy Idol and The Church (great choices, might I add). If these bands were to cover one of your songs, what would you want them to cover? And how do you imagine the crowd to respond? :-P
ha ha i actually think billy could nail Lips Like Morphine-- i kinda learned a lot from him when i covered his song.. a little swagger i guess.. a little more masculinity-- and i do mean a little--
You are well known for your chicago pride, but if you had to live in
another city, anywhere in the world where would you go and why?
well i'm getting older and uglier every day, and i think itd be smart to move to less and less developed countries with less competition.. that way , even if im gross and old, i can go to myanmar or whatever, cos just by being white and american i'd still be a novelty and therefore still mayge get the local village chicks. that said, jonny and i like LA, NY, and new castle in england
Wikipedia claims that greg is a "new wave historian", is this true?
he's prob do really well on 80's pop jeopardy yeah. that said, i would never throw around a word like 'historian' lightly-- probably pisses off true historians who actually had formal education in their specific area--
If you could see any concert in history regardless of time and place, what
show would you chose?
i wish id seen the smiths queen is dead tour.. or the sex pistols in london on that boat on the Thames to celebrate the EMI release in '77
Seeing as the Pumpkins are back together(somewhat), releasing an album and Touring this year..
Is there a possible chance that KH will tour with SP? :)
funny you ask. i bumped into billy 3 weeks ago as on my way to the placebo show.. and he said he'd pay me $1000 if i punched brian molko in the face for him. they aparently have some history-- well i was in the box watching the show and sent him this text "at show now. thinking about the bounty- i will choke him out and kick him in the dick if it mean we could tour with you guys" and he responded "it would help your chances to say the least"-- ha ha-- short answer, its a long shot, but we're doing everything short of murder to try to get it-- but if i have to see that tour from the audience, i will.
