Kill Hannah
Review from D1 music network

Kill Hannah - For Never & Ever After months of anticipation I have finally been given the awesome opportunity to listen to Kill Hannah's upcoming major label debut For Never & Ever, due in stores October 14th, 2003. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it sounds to me as if the band's years of hard work have finally paid off. Kill Hannah, hailing from Chicago, was formed in 1995 by frontman Mat Devine. This femme new-wave machine, armed with a handful of demos and an almost religious fan following, is now ready to take on the musical world. Every time I start this album over, a different thought comes to mind and I begin reliving the most memorable moments of my musical past. I remember going to see The Cure perform an orgasmic three-hour show in Philadelphia for my birthday. I remember my painful childhood crush on David Bowie. I remember hearing Orgy's Candyass and being inspired to pick up a synth guitar for the first time. When I began to write this review I wondered what band or sound I could use to compare Kill Hannah with. I have only been able to come up with one conclusion – there are none. The only way I can describe For Never & Ever fairly is to say that it is nothing short of amazing. It's packed with tons of twangs and lyrics, almost as if they are from a fairy tale book. Stories of the city, the road, love, loss, and dreams are told in this chapter of Kill Hannah's career and it seems to me as if each song is a never ending story of life's critical elements. This album has definitely been a breath of fresh air to me. Perhaps my favorite tracks off of the album are "Raining All The Time" and "I Wanna Be A Kennedy". I can create my own meanings behind their lyrics and apply them to my own life. I highly recommend this album in its entirety to anyone and everyone; it could possibly be one of the most unique listening experiences you'll ever have. When asked backstage in Chicago what to expect of the show that night, Mat kept his answer simple, yet realistic: "We are five guys playing like our lives depend on it." - Rebekkah
